MB means 1,000,000 bytes; MiB means 1,048,576 bytes. This page uses MB. A target is an upper bound, not an exact output size.

Target size or quality: choose the constraint

ModeWhat it controls
Target file size (2-pass)A successful result stays within your selected byte limit. Longer clips, motion and audio leave less room for picture detail.
Quality modeQuality controls the encoding; output size varies. Use target-size mode when you must fit a hard upload limit.

How much bitrate fits in the target?

Calculation example, not a measured run: 20MB across 120 seconds allows about 1.33 Mbps for video, audio and container overhead combined. The video budget is lower. A smaller target cannot guarantee readable text or unchanged quality.

What should you expect from the result?

The result can be smaller than your target. If the service cannot meet the upper bound, the task fails instead of delivering an oversized successful result. Preview important text and motion, then check the downloaded bytes before sharing.
